Bullying Incident at Ateneo de Davao University Elicits Reactions Online

The bullying incident that happened inside the Ateneo de Davao University goes viral and elicits reactions online.

Nowadays, bullying has been one of the most common problems not only in the Philippines but also in different countries all around the world. Several government agencies and non-profit organizations were already making efforts to reduce the rate of bullying in the country.

Unfortunately, discrimination and bullying still exist in both schools and offices affecting the victim’s physical, mental, and emotional health.

A few days ago, the video footage of a bullying incident inside the Ateneo de Davao University immediately spread like a wildfire online and garnered negative reactions from social media users. The AdDU management is currently investigating the incident.

In the video, a male student is harassing and bullying his fellow student inside of the comfort room. The school confirmed that the two boys involved in the video were junior high school students.

“An incident involving two ADDU Junior High School students was recorded on video and circulated on social media. School authorities have met with these students and their parents, and an investigation is ongoing,” AdDU said.

The university is taking legal actions based on the Ateneo de Davao Junior High School Student Discipline Code, DepEd Child Protection Policy, at Data Privacy Act of 2012.

“We ask everyone to respect the privacy of the students and their families and to avoid engaging in misinformation,” the university added.

The school management stated that they will ensure the safety of the students and will not tolerate such behaviors inside the school premises. Disciplinary sanctions will be imposed after due process.
