Cracks On Topaz Ortigas Didn’t Come From Faultline Says Phivolcs

– According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the cracks on Topas Road in Ortigas Center weren’t due to faultlines.

The Philippines is home to many fault lines. As such, whenever there’s an earthquake, strong tremors could be felt. This is due to the country being within the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Along with this, a large number of active volcanoes could also be found in the Philippines. However, for the cracks found in Topas Road, this may not be the case.

Recently, long cracks were found on Topaz Road in Ortigas Center, Pasig City. However, the Philippines’ authority on seismological activity says there are no fault lines in that area.

During an interview with Super Radyo dzBB, Phivolcs director, Renato Solidum said:

Walang fault diyan, kung fault ‘yan at gumalaw ‘yung fault ay dapat ay lumindol nang malakas

Likewise, citizens and residents living near the area did not report any for of tremors or quakes. Instead, Solidum theorizes that the cracks may have resulted from erosion due to heavy rains.

Additionally, it could also be the result of the ongoing excavation work near the surrounding area. Meanwhile, the cracks have led authorities to temporarily close off the road to motorists.

Furthermore, the cracks could be seen on Topaz Road between a building and a construction site, leading to Solidum’s theory. For now, large tarpaulins and early warning cones were set near the area.
