Delivery Rider Verbally Abused, Slapped by Tourist Over Spilled Soft Drinks

A foreign tourist verbally abused and even physically assaulted a food delivery rider because some soft drinks were spilled.

Delivery riders play an important role in modern society, providing a vital service by delivering goods and meals to people’s doorsteps. They serve as the bridge between businesses and consumers, ensuring that essential products reach their destinations efficiently and on time.

Delivery services have seen an increase in demand in recent years due to several causes, including the popularity of online shopping, food delivery applications, and customer convenience-seeking behaviors.

Around 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday (April 17, 2024), a delivery rider was disrespected and slapped by a foreign tourist at Morrison Beach, Barangay Ulingan in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte over spilled soft drinks.

In the video, the tourist expresses his aggression towards the rider. The rider arrived to deliver the customer’s food order, but before the customer could receive the items, a cup of soft drinks accidentally fell.

The foreigner began throwing insults at the Filipino rider, blaming him for improperly securing the cup in the packaging. In an attempt to calm the situation, the delivery rider offered to pay for the spilled soft drinks.

However, when the tourist attempted to make the payment, he noticed that the rider was holding his cell phone and couldn’t properly hand over the food packaging. The rider’s gesture resulted in another round of verbal abuse.

Later on, the foreigner slapped the rider’s phone. The victim’s response and whether he will file charges against his attacker are currently under investigation by local authorities.

The incident emphasized the importance of respecting service workers. No one deserves to be subjected to verbal abuse or physical violence, especially over a minor accident such as spilled soft drinks.
