4 Individuals “Unauthorized Selling” of Pharmaceutical Products Arrested

The Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel has arrested four (4) individuals who were caught selling pharmaceutical products despite being unauthorized.

Four people were caught unlawfully selling pharmaceutical items in Quezon City, Paranaque, and Quezon Province after a series of operations by the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). Sunny Firmeza Jr., 36; Rhona Marie Castillo, 30; Junesca Capuno, and Arlene Solina were identified as the suspects.

Four suspects were apprehended in the buy-bust operation, according to CIDG Director MGen. Albert Ignatius Ferro, when various pharmaceutical goods worth P218,739.000 were taken from their posts. CIDG Cavite detectives apprehended Firmeza and Castillo at SM North EDSA, North Avenue corner EDSA in Quezon City, while Capuno was arrested at Clipper Avenue, Bayview, Brgy. Tambo, Parañaque City.

Solina, on the other hand, was apprehended at 5:12 p.m. in Angustias, Zone 4, Tayabas City, Quezon. In violation of RA 10918, a case was brought against the four suspects (Philippine Pharmacy Act).

66 bottles of Ivermectin 15mg pills, 91 pieces of Amoxicillin Axmel 500mg, 33 pieces of Amoxicillin Trihydrate Vhellox 500mg, 15 pieces of Amoxicillin Trihydrate and Axmel, and 15 pieces of Cefalexin Exel 500mg were among the pharmaceutical products seized from the four suspects.

Firmeza, Castillo, and Capuno have all been charged with further RA 9711 breaches (Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009). The sale of pharmaceutical items, particularly those that are unregistered and not allowed by the FDA, is a breach of the law, according to MGen. Ferro, and they should only be held accountable.

Ferro also cautioned the public to be wary of unregistered medicinal items being sold today, particularly online, because some people are still taking advantage.
