PH logs record-high 401 dead due to Covid

THE Philippines logged a record-high 401 dead from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Friday, the Department of Health (DoH) said, bringing the toll to 14,520 since the pandemic began two years ago.

The last highest fatality count was on Tuesday at 382.

“Moreover, 213 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DoH said in a statement.

There are also 12,225 new Covid-19 cases on Friday to bring the caseload to 840,554.A total of 178,351 cases are active infections, 98.8 percent of which are either asymptomatic or mild.

There are 647,683 recoveries, including 946 survivors that were recorded on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Philippines ranked second in terms of new coronavirus infections in Southeast Asia, behind Indonesia with 1.5 million cases, according to the latest Johns Hopkins University’s Covid tracker.

Global cases have reached 133.9 million, including 2.9 million deaths, the tracker added.
