Fisherman in Iloilo Lost His Life After Victimized by Needlefish Attack

A fisherman has lost his life after being pierced by a “balu” or needlefish in the abdomen in Barangay Parara Norte, Tigbauan, Iloilo.

They are known for their streamlined shape, which allows them to quickly glide through the water with agility.

These fish are carnivorous and feed primarily on small fish and other small marine creatures. They are known to leap out of the water at high speeds, especially when chasing prey or trying to escape from predators.

Despite their small size, needlefish can pose a danger to humans, as they have been known to leap out of the water and accidentally injure people with their sharp beaks. In some cases, these encounters can lead to serious injuries or even fatalities.

Recently, a fisherman from Iloilo died after being pierced by a needlefish in the stomach while catching fish. The report immediately circulated online and elicited comments from the internet users.

The victim was identified as Rudy Tinasas, 59 years old, and a resident in the area. According to the victim’s son, Ronel, while his father was standing on the boat, a needlefish suddenly leaped and struck him.

The victim suddenly felt weak and collapsed there. Ronel later discovered that his father had a wound in his abdomen caused by the needlefish attack. The victim has been a fisherman for almost five decades.
