Group of Students Enjoy First Ride on Modern Jeepney

A group of students went viral and elicited various reactions online after flexing their first ride on a modern jeepney.

Modern jeepneys represent an important upgrade to traditional jeepneys, aiming to provide a safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly mode of public transportation in the Philippines.

These new vehicles are part of the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program, which seeks to replace old jeepneys with modernized versions that adhere to higher standards of safety, comfort, and environmental sustainability.

Recently, @_bernaddie, a TikTok user shared a video of students from Calamba, Laguna, experiencing a ride on a modern jeepney for the first time. The video circulated online on April 4, 2024, and earned comments from the netizens.

Uploader Ayezza Bautista shared that capturing the moment on video was important to them as it marked their first time riding a modern jeepney.

“Since it was our first time na makakasakay sa modern jeep, naisipan ko na [mag-take] ng video ng mga reactions namin and we had a lot of fun talaga,” Bautista saud.

Ayezza also shared that the driver was accommodating and didn’t mind their excitement, even when they playfully swung from the jeepney’s handles.

“The driver was nice din dahil ‘di siya nagalit sa’min kahit nilalambitin na namin yung hawakan ng jeep niya. [Natutuwa pa siya!],” Bautista added.

Modern jeepneys like the ones they rode are part of the Department of Transportation’s PUV Modernization Program. These new vehicles are equipped with ‘Clean Air Act’ compliant engines, such as Euro 4, electric, solar, or alternative fuel.
