Content Creator “Miss Popcorn” From Negros Occidental Goes Viral After Frying Fish & Hotdogs Using Sun Heat Alone

A content creator from Negros Occidental known as Miss Popcorn allegedly fries hotdogs and fish using the sun’s heat.

According to Miss Popcorn, she left a pan out in the sun for about 20 minutes before adding oil and cooking the food. The hotdogs were allegedly cooked after she placed them in the pan, while the oil started to splatter when she added the fish.

Miss Popcorn expressed feeling the intense heat, stating that it penetrated indoors and made the pan difficult to handle due to its temperature. While she emphasized that it was just an experimental stunt and not an encouragement for others to cook outdoors using solar heat.

PAGASA weather specialist Dr. John Manalo commented that the sun’s heat alone might not be enough for cooking, contrary to what was shown in the video.

“Iinit po siya ng mainit talaga, pero hindi po ‘yan magiging enough para halimbawa roon sa video, maluto yung hotdog,” Manalo said.

Dr. Manalo clarified that while there are instances where solar heat can effectively cook food, it requires a highly efficient material that can concentrate and retain the heat effectively.

“Depende po. Kung talagang efficient ‘yung structure ng ganyang material. Talagang na-corner niya ‘yung heat niya para makaluto, pwede po,” he added.

He further explained that although the Philippines has experienced scorching temperatures, reaching up to 42.2 degrees Celsius in Tuguegarao in 1912 and 1969, such high temperatures are still insufficient to boil water, which necessitates reaching 100 degrees Celsius.

Viewers’ skepticism and interest are sparked by the video, which leads to conversations on whether cooking using solar heat alone is possible.

Although it showed an interesting experiment, experts stress the importance of efficiency and safety in culinary techniques and suggest caution and additional investigation before attempting similar practices.
