Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Surigao del Sur, April 1, 2024

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.0 magnitude quake in Surigao del Sur today, April 1, 2024. Here are the details.

Following the 4.2 magnitude earthquake in Surigao del Sur a few weeks ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in the same province. According to the agency, the quake that hit Surigao del Sur today with a magnitude of 5.0.

The earthquake today that struck Surigao del Sur, Monday, April 1, 2024, at 05:16 a.m. was tectonic in origin.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao del Sur was located at 08.13°North, 126.68°East – 031 km North 71° East of Lingig. It had a depth of focus of 010 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are expected from the said quake but aftershocks are not. According to the quake-recording agency, the following intensities were felt in these areas:

• Intensity IV
  • Bislig City, Surigao del Sir

• Intensity V
  • Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur

The following instrumental intensities were recorded by Phivolcs in these areas:

• Intensity I
  • Tandag City, Surigao del Sur

• Intensity III
  • Bislig City, Surigao del Sur
