Filipino Actor Cesar Montano’s Nephew Sells Muro-Ami Goggle for P1 Million

CESAR MONTANO – The Pinoy actor’s nephew John Manhilot sold a pair of Muro-ami goggles for P1 million.

“Muro-Ami,” directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya, is an interesting and thought-provoking piece that looks into the harsh realities of the Philippine fishing industry. Released in 1999, the movie portrays the sacrifices and struggles of young fishermen as they engage in the dangerous method of muro-ami.

The story revolves around a young boy named Fredo (played by Cesar Montano), who, in an attempt to provide for his family, becomes involved in muro-ami fishing under the command of an exploitative foreman, played by Pen Medina.

The movie exposes the harsh conditions these young boys endure, including physical abuse, hazardous working environments, and the toll on their education. The film won several awards, including the Best Picture award at the 1999 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Recently, John Manhilot, the nephew of Cesar Montano, went to Jayson Luzadas known as Boss Toyo of Pinoy Pawnstars, offering the Muro-ami goggles for P1.5 million. However, the vlogger contacted the actor for confirmation.

Upon Montano’s visit to the shop, he verified that the goggles were indeed the ones used during the filming of “Muro-Ami.” After a few moments, a bidding scenario unfolded, with Luzadas initially offering P200,000 for the goggles.

Unexpectedly, Montano increased the offer to P300,000. Despite ongoing negotiations, Manhilot held firm, setting the final price at P1 million.

Luzadas attempted to secure the item for P800,000, but Montano ultimately decided to acquire it for P1 million, winning the auction.

Following this, Montano announced plans for “Muro-Ami 2” and extended an invitation to Boss Toyo to become his co-star in the upcoming film. Luzadas also requested Montano’s signature on a poster.
