Vilma Santos is quite happy that her reunion movie with Christopher de Leon titled, “When I Met You In Tokyo,” was included among the final ten entries in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

“It’s an answered prayer talaga,” she told us.

“Lahat kami talaga kinakabahan kasi nga diba, I think there were, I think, 30-something titles being considered para sa final six. Kaya nung nasama yung pelikula namin talagang tuwang-tuwa kami kasi pinagdasal namin e.”

Vilma described “When I Met You In Tokyo” as a simple yet very inspiring love story.

“May mga lessons kasi siya na ini-impart and I think it will resonate with many: Kabataan, the not-so-young, mga titos and titos, mga seniors…kumbaga e halos lahat makaka-relate sa movie.”

Produced by JG Productions, Inc. it is her first movie with Christopher since “Mano Po 3” in 2004.

“It is very exciting for us kasi, I believe, kami ni Boyet e, very natural ang chemistry namin. Kahit matagal na kaming hindi nagkatrabaho andun pa rin yung natural rapport and people will see that in this film,” Vilma shared.

Note that Vilma and Boyet first teamed up in the classic “Tag-ulan Sa Tag-araw” in 1975.

Written by Suzette Doctolero and directed by Rado Peru and Rommel Penza, with Christopher de Leon as associate director, “When I Met You In Tokyo” focuses on two overseas Filipino workers (OFW) finding love in unexpected circumstance.

“Kami yun,” said Vilma. “Yung characters naming ni Boyet. Ako si Azon, siya si Joey. May pakilig kami pero we will act our age, we will make it very natural for people our age.”

She assured, “Siyempre hindi naman namin kinalimutan yung mga younger audiences, sinama namin ang very promising young stars na sina Darren Espanto at Cassy Legaspi sa cast for them. Very talented ang mga ito. Their future looks bright.”

“When I Met You In Tokyo” opens in cinemas Dec. 25.
