PAGASA Says Typhoon Betty Weakened Into Severe Tropical Storm

LATEST WEATHER UPDATE – The state weather bureau PAGASA reported that Typhoon Betty weakened into a severe tropical storm.

On Thursday (June 1, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Betty will affect the country’s weather condition.

PAGASA reported that Betty weakened into a severe tropical storm as it moved northward. It was last spotted at 505 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

Severe tropical storm Betty is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within the day, according to Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja.

“Inaasahan natin na lalabas na ng Philippine area of responsibility, itong si [Severe Tropical Storm] Betty sa mga susunod na oras, o maaaring mamayang tanghali o hapon,” Estareja said.

The enhanced Southwest Monsoon will bring occasional to frequent wind gusts over northern Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Northern Samar and the northern portion of Samar.

Habagat will also bring monsoon rains over Occidental Mindoro, Antique, and northern Palawan including Cuyo, Calamian, and Kalayaan Islands.

Cloudy weather conditions with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and of Visayas. Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorm.

Meanwhile, marine gale warning remains over the northern seaboards of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Luzon, and the western seaboard of Southern Luzon due to Habagat and severe tropical storm Betty.
