3 hurt in shooting incident in Cabanatuan City

CABANATUAN CITY — Just hours before the New Year’s eve celebration, three people — two elderlies and a toddler — were wounded when a former soldier fired a 12-gauge shotgun in this city afternoon of Saturday (Dec. 31).
In a report, city police chief Lieutenant Colonel Edilmar Alviar said suspect Ronillo Sanchez, 58, described as a former member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines who went AWOL (absent without official leave), was arrested after he fired the shotgun in Zone 2, Barangay (village) Camp Tinio at about 4:30 p.m.

Police Staff Sargent Xavier Corpuz, investigator, said the victims Rolando Agregado, 73, a retired soldier; his wife Editha, 63; and a 5-year-old boy sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to a local hospital where they are “now in stable condition.” The victims are residents in the said village.
Investigations showed Sanchez fired a shotgun on the victims over an unspecified “misunderstanding.”

Recovered from the crime scene were three fired cartridges for a 12-gauge shotgun while the gun itself, which was still loaded with six live ammunition, was seized from the suspect, Corpuz said.
The suspect was apparently under the influence of liquor, police added.
Charges of three counts of frustrated homicide were being filed against the suspect before the city prosecutors office, police said. INQ
