Roll Out of LTO “Single-Ticketing System” Eyed on 1st Quarter of 2023

LTO – The Land Transportation System is set to roll out the “Single-Ticketing System” or Unified Penalty System in 2023.

In the Philippines, the government agency that releases driver’s license to those who are qualified to drive is the Land Transportation Office. More commonly called LTO, it has a branch in almost all cities and municipalities across the nation.

It is also at the Land Transportation Office where vehicles are being registered. There are corresponding penalties for those who will be caught driving without a valid driver’s license or operating vehicles that are not registered or with an expired car registration.

Aside from the said penalties, there are also fines for other driving and traffic violations. However, according to Assistant Secretary Jay Art Tugade who heads LTO, the monetary sanctions may differ among different areas.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Tugade expressed that the penalty for not wearing helmets is at P300 in some cities but it is at P1,500 in some other cities. Because of situations like this, LTO wants to implement a “Single-Ticketing System” or Unified Penalty System.

According to the report, the roll out of the “Single-Ticketing System” is eyed on the first quarter of 2023. It will cover all cities. Tugade stressed that it can help in monitoring the performance of the drivers through a common demerit point system.

The Assistant Secretary who heads LTO stressed that they will really make sure that only deserving and qualified drivers will get the privilege to drive. He clarified that the unified system is not to increase the penalties but to have fines that encourage people to avoid such violations.

Tugade also eyes to make efforts to address the corruption issues surrounding the agency and to improve the quality of service given to the public.
