Kapamilya star Jane de Leon is the fortunate actress who will portray the iconic Darna role in a series and one of the actresses who also played this role, Star for all Season Vilma Santos, shared this wonderful message.

Ate Vi, as what Vilma is fondly called in showbiz, became the Pinay superhero, based on Mars Ravelo’s comics, in four movies from 1973 to 1980. She was featured in Lipad, Darna, Lipad, Darna and the Giants, Darna vs the Planet Women, and Darna at Ding.

Now ABS-CBN acquired the rights to make a Darna teleserye featuring Jane de Leon and Janella Salvador as Valentina. In a recent media conference for this project, based on the article in Bandera, Vilma Santos gave her “basbas” to the new Darna.

In a recorded video, the veteran actress said, “Si Darna ay isang local heroine na nilikha ni Mars Ravelo — babaeng matapang at handang ipagtanggol ang sinumang nangangailangan. I’m lucky enough na makagawa ng apat na ‘Darna.’”

Vilma added that being Darna is very relevant nowadays, especially since many people are going through a lot of challenges in life. She also said that this character has brought inspiration to many people and the faith that everybody can be a Darna in their own way. “As long as you’re willing to help other people, you’re considered a hero,” the award-winning actress said.

Ate Vi also stressed that the iconic role has been aspired by many to have. With this, she gave her message to the chosen Darna. “Ngayon, Jane, na ikaw ang napiling Darna, bigyan mo sila ng inspirasyon na meron pa ring pagmamahal, meron pa ring tiwala, at meron pa ring pag-asa. Ang daming humawak ng batong ‘yan,” the Star for all Season said.

Vilma Santos added that Jane de Leon should take care of this title and be an example to her generation. “I wish you all good luck. Nandito lang ako to support you,” she added. The veteran actress also invited the public to watch the upcoming Darna series.

Jane de Leon was overwhelmed by the message that she received from one of the showbiz icons. The actress said that she did not expect that. She also promised that she will do her best in this project.
