IRIGA CITY — Police on Monday, June 27, arrested the suspect in killing a 15-year-old girl, who was found dead at a corn plantation in Iriga City in Camarines Sur.
Police Lieutenant Carl Joseph Jaucian, officer-in-charge at Iriga City police, told reporters in a press conference Tuesday that Mark Francis Fabellare, 18, was arrested at his house in Zone 6, Barangay (village) San Pedro. In the same place, the victim’s body was found on June 25.
Jaucian said they were to able apprehend the suspect after he admitted to killing the victim during an interview with police.
“It was guilt and heavy heart that led to his arrest,” Jaucian said.
He said the suspect was the first cousin of the victim. Police did not reveal the victim’s name, who was reported missing on June 24.
He added that the motive of the killing was a misunderstanding between the suspect and victim.
“The victim threw dalandan (lime) and hit the suspect’s face and then she ran and he chased her but when the victim was cornered, she took her bolo from her side. Unfortunately, the suspect was able to grab it and hacked her to death,” he narrated.
The victim sustained multiple hack wounds in the neck, back, nape and hands.
Fabellare, who is now behind bars, said in a Tuesday interview that he was very sorry for his crime.
“Nabigla lang talaga ako, sir, hindi ko naman sinadya na patayin ‘yung pinsan ko, nagdilim kasi paningin ko nung sinampal niya ako,” he said.
(I acted on impulse, sir. I didn’t mean to kill my cousin. I blacked out when she hit me.)
He also said he did not know why his cousin hit him in the first place or why she drew her weapon and attempted to hurt him.
The suspect was subjected to an inquest and will be charged with murder.
