Campaign Manager of Former Sen. Bongbong Marcos Jr. Speaks on his Absence from CNN Debate

MARCOS JR – The campaign manager of former Senator Bongbong Marcos said that he wants the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the other bets to tackle the debate format prior to the event.

The recently-held CNN Presidential Debate 2022 took social media platforms by storm after the presidential candidates laid their platforms and visions for the country, answered specific issues thrown at them, and gave their standpoints on certain key issues involving the nation.

Prior to the debate event, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that all 10 presidential bets will be attending the debate. The said statement was contested by the camp of presidential aspirant and former Senator Bongbong Marcos Jr. who said that he did not confirm his attendance in the debate and it will depend if his schedule permits him to attend the event.

Nine (9) presidential candidates for the May 2022 Election except for former Sen. Bongbong Marcos Jr. were present at the event. Recently, the campaign manager of the standard-bearer of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, Benjamin Abalos Jr., spoke on the former Senator’s absence.

Based on a report on Inquirer, Abalos revealed that Marcos Jr. has ordered him to ask the Comelec and his fellow presidential candidates first to tackle the format of the debate “which will include the issues to be discussed, the time allotment for each, the right to respond and rebut his/her arguments, who will be the moderator, among others”.

Abalos expressed that they sent a letter to Comelec and the other presidential bets. Marcos Jr. wants to have a discussion first prior to the main event. In the letter, they stressed that they are ready to join the debate. His camp claims that the poll body did not respond to their request.
