NTC Warns Facebook, Lazada, Shopee Over Illegal Sale of Text Blast Machines

The National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) has warned Facebook, Lazada, and Shopee over the illegal sale of text blast machines online.

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has ordered Facebook and e-commerce giants Lazada and Shopee to stop selling text blast machines, as it is illegal. Facebook (Marketplace) Philippines, Lazada E-Services Philippines Inc., and Shopee Philippines were served with show cause and cease and desist orders by the NTC.

The injunction was issued in response to a story published by the Philadelphia Inquirer on October 10 that highlighted the selling of illegal radio equipment such as text blasters on online shopping sites. According to the NTC, such equipment cannot be imported, manufactured, sold, or distributed.

Hitech SMS Blaster, SMS Location Blasting System, and other similar products on their platform were revealed to be for sale. The sale, according to the NTC, is in violation of Republic Act 3846, often known as the Radio Control Law, as well as other laws such as memorandum order 01-02-2013, which prohibits the sale of portable cellular mobile repeaters and portable cell site equipment.

Only the NTC and Congressional franchises have the authority to issue approval for radio stations to operate under the Radio Control Law. As a result, the companies in question will appear before the commission on October 27 to explain their actions.

They’re also barred from “selling the above-mentioned and similar equipment regulated by the Commission” right away. Small box-like devices costing P200,000 to P3 million were discovered to be capable of sending 100,000 text messages per hour for free in one location.
