‘Teachers for Leni’ urges Robredo to seek presidency

MANILA, Philippines — Some 250 teachers belonging to the Team Leni Robredo group launched a campaign on Saturday to urge the Vice President to run for the highest government seat in the 2022 elections, saying she can uplift the condition of teachers and improve the quality of education in the country.

The teachers held an online launch for “Teachers for Leni” where they formally expressed their intention to support Robredo’s possible presidential bid.

“Handa kaming makipagbayanihan sa kapwa Pilipino upang isulong ang makatarungan, mapayapa at makataong lipunan. Kami ay naninindigan para sa katotohanan, katapatan, at marangal na paglilingkod sa bayan,” the group said in a statement.

(We are ready to partner with our fellow Filipinos to push for a just, peaceful, and humane society. We stand for a truthful, honest, and honorable service to the nation.)

According to Team Leni Robredo, groups from other parts of the country, including Metro Manila, Iloilo, and Pangasinan, have also formally launched their respective coalitions in support of Robredo’s possible presidential run.

The Team Leni Robredo was launched on June 12 to gather support for the Vice President in the 2022 elections.

The group said they will hold a convention on August 30 to amplify their plea for Robredo to accept the challenge of running for president.

Robredo has yet to publicly announce her decision on whether or not she will run for the highest government post next year.
