Pinay gymnasts bag three golds in Hungary

Filipina gymnasts Breanna Labadan and Daniela Dela Pisa pocketed three gold and three silver medals in the 2021 Tavazsi Kupa Budapest in Hungary recently.

Labadan snared a gold in the clubs category, silver in ball and another silver medal in the ribbon event.

On the other hand, Dela Pisa seized gold medals in the hoop and clubs categories, and a silver in the ribbon event.

Dela Pisa started turning heads when she amassed multiple medals in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games held in Manila.

Dela Pisa, 16, won a gold medal in the hoop final — the only gold won by a Filipino gymnast outside the two that Tokyo Olympics bound Carlos Yulo bagged in the floor exercises and artistic all-around.

Dela Pisa also pocketed bronze medals in the rhythmic ball and clubs in the Manila Games.

All of these were ultimately setup by the Cebuana overcoming ovarian cancer at the age of four.

She was feted in the 2019 Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Awards Night as one of the Junior Athletes of the Year, along with tennis prodigy Alex Eala, swimmer Miguel Barreto and chess whiz Daniel Quizon.

Labadan and Dela Pisa have been representing and winning medals for the Philippines in multiple international meets for quite some time now.

Last month, Labadan won a silver medal in ball and Dela Pisa clinched a silver as well in clubs in the Gracia Cup also in Budapest.
