MRT-3 fire injures 8 passengers
MANILA, Philippines — Eight passengers were injured when fire broke out in one of the coaches of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) Saturday night.
“Eight passengers (4 male and 4 female) sustained minor injuries (minor bruises on their arms and legs), which they obtained from jumping off the trains,” MRT-3 said in a statement on Sunday.

MRT-3 management
initially said only three commuters were injured.
“We extend our deepest apologies to all our passengers who were affected by the incident, and that we are examining all possible angles to accurately determine its cause,” the MRT-3 management said.

“We assure the public that we will take all the necessary countermeasures to prevent a repeat of this incident,” it added.
Early Sunday, MRT-3’s maintenance provider Sumitomo Corporation said that an investigation is underway.

At around 9:12 p.m. Saturday, the MRT-3 received a fire report on “the last car of a northbound train between the Guadalupe and Gil Puyat / Buendia stations in Makati City.

Firefighters arrived in the area minutes later and placed the place under control at 9:51 p.m.
MRT-3 resumed full operations on Sunday.
