Man Passes Away After Being Hit by Racing Boat While Swimming at Beach in Antique

A man has lost his life after being struck by a racing boat along the shores of Barangay Bagongbayan, Laua-an, Antique.

Racing boats, known for their speed and agility, can provide thrilling experiences for participants and spectators alike. However, like any high-speed activity, racing boats come with inherent risks, and accidents can happen with serious consequences.

Racing boats are designed to travel at incredibly high speeds, often reaching speeds of up to hundreds of kilometers per hour. At such speeds, even the slightest miscalculation or error in judgment can lead to a tragic accident.

Operating a racing boat requires skill, experience, and knowledge of watercraft handling techniques. Novice drivers or those unfamiliar with the intricacies of racing boats may struggle to control the vessel, increasing the risk of accidents.

Recently, the Facebook page “FBTV News Iloilo” shared a video of a man who passed away after being hit by a racing boat in Antique while swimming. The post quickly circulated online and garnered various reactions from the netizens.

The victim was identified as Hanzel Buyco, 29 years old, a resident of the area. Meanwhile, the boat’s driver was Mark Michael Acosta from Concepcion, Iloilo.

According to the investigation, Acosta was practicing with his boat in preparation for boat racing. Buyco, on the other hand, was entering the path of the boat while catching ducks along the shore.

Buyco suffered severe head injuries and had wounds on his shoulder. In the video footage, it’s evident that Acosta was speeding up the boat, and unfortunately, Buyco was hit by the boat’s propeller.

The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with water sports and the importance of practicing caution and safety measures at all times.
