BONGBONG MARCOS – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos said Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio will stay as Department Of Education (DepEd) chief.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. affirmed on Tuesday that Vice President Sara Duterte will remain in her role as the Secretary of Education despite demands for her to step down.

Lawmakers in the House of Representatives have raised concerns about Duterte’s ability to manage the education system.

Based on a report from Inquirer, when asked about guaranteeing Duterte’s continued tenure, Marcos said that it ultimately depended on their performance in their respective roles.

“Any of the cabinet secretaries will be replaced kapag hindi nila ginagawa yung trabaho nila. All the other things are not part of the discussion. Kapag hindi na kaya, nagkasakit, sabihin mo lang, papalitan ka namin. Kapag hindi talaga marunong o korap, tatanggalin ka talaga namin. Hindi naman ganoon si Inday,” said BBM in an ambush interview in Occidental Mindoro.

Lawmakers’ demands for Sara Duterte’s resignation stemmed from various reasons. Some raised concerns about her lack of experience in education, while others pointed to the ongoing series of criticisms from the Duterte family directed at Marcos.

“The Vice President should show some decency by resigning from her DepEd post at the very least. Her family unleashed a barrage of insults and attacks directly to the President and yet she does nothing and is still enjoying the perks of being part of the official family,” Manila 3rd District Representative Joel Chua said in a statement on April 19.

During a rally in January, former president Rodrigo Duterte publicly referred to Marcos as “bangag,” a slang term for a drug user. Sara Duterte was present at the event and was captured on camera appearing to ‘laugh’ during her father’s speech. This action drew the disapproval of First Lady Liza Marcos.

Meanwhile, ACT Teachers Representative France Castro stated that the nation requires a more suitable candidate for the position of Education Secretary.

“If he were to replace his secretary, then he should get someone he should have gotten in the first place: someone who knows education and whose decisions actually better the sector,” Castro said.
