The holidays can mean differently among many individual.

In the case of some people, holidays are not only an opportunity to be part of the celebration but also a perfect time to catch up with family and friends. A lot of individuals take the holiday time out with their loved ones most especially when it falls next to a weekend creating long weekends.

There are two (2) main types of holidays in the Philippines — the Regular Holiday and the Special Non-Working Holidays. During regular holidays, both classes in schools and work in both public and private sectors are suspended.

Thus, employees who need to report to work during this type of holiday are entitled to receive a regular holiday pay computation. With regards to the employees of government offices that cancel work on regular holidays, no deduction from the payroll is set.

The list of the May 2024 holidays include only one (1) regular holiday which is on May 1 for the celebration of the Labor Day.

The list of the April 2024 holidays include one (1) regular holiday which is on April 9 in celebration of the Day of Valor or the Araw ng Kagitingan.

With regards to special non-working days, there is also an extra pay intended for workers who have to report to duty. The amount that working employees will receive is based on the holiday pay rules in the Philippines.
