Many of us have envisioned Japan as a place for pink cherry blossoms, blazing hues of autumn season, ancient temples, world of anime, tall skyscrapers, ramen, sushi restaurants, and among others. They also boast numerous high-end Michelin-starred restaurants.

  • Okonomiyaki
  • This is a pancake of all your favorite foods together. It has octopus, shrimp, pork, yam or kimchi drizzled with mayonnaise and sweet sauce on top.
  • Ikayaki
  • This is a squid pierced in a wooden stick and grilled with so sauce on top of it. The squid delivers a fresh and chewy taste and texture that you will love.
  • Kakigori
  • This is a famous sweet and summer treat. This is made up of shaved ice with condensed milk, sweetener, and flavoured syrup. Kakigori is just as cold and refreshing as ice cream.
  • Taiyaki
  • This is a traditional Japanese street food dessert that is either filled with red bean paste, custard, chocolate, or cheese. Which will you eat first? Head or tail? It’s yours to decide.
  • Senbei
  • .This is a rice cracker in various sizes, shapes, and flavours best paired with a cup of green tea. The rice crackers are often improved in taste using soy sauce and mirin.
  • Dango
  • This is a sweet skewer made from mochiko shaped into small circles and drizzled generously with shoyu and sugar sauce. 
  • Takoyaki
  • Give yourself a treat of these ball-shaped pancake filled with octopus. This is garnished with mayonnaise, ginger pickles, and fermented fish flakes.
  • Bento
  • This is a colorful box filled with assorted foods like meat, rice, and vegetables. This is a common lunch choice as it is packed for convenience.
  • Nikuman
  • This is an equivalent of a Chinese bao. Nikuman is a steamy dough with pork-onion mixture inside it.
