BALTIMORE KEY BRIDGE COLLAPSE – No Filipino citizens sustained injuries or were killed during the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, on Monday.

The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, occurred following a collision between a cargo ship and one of its support columns. Officials report that six individuals from a construction crew are currently missing and presumed dead.

Around 1:27 am (05:27 GMT) on Tuesday, a container ship collided with a support pillar of the Francis Scott Key Bridge located in the city on the East Coast of the United States.

Vehicles traversing the bridge plunged into the Patapsco River, while six workers are unaccounted for and presumed dead. The vessel involved, named the Dali, measures 300 meters (984 feet) in length. Departing from Baltimore at 1 am (05:00 GMT), the Singapore-registered ship was en route to Colombo, Sri Lanka, with an expected arrival date of April 22.

Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld stated that local pilots, not the ship’s crew, were guiding the vessel at the time of the incident. These pilots undergo training to prevent accidents like the one that occurred on Tuesday.

Authorities confirmed the safety of all 22 crew members aboard the Dali and the two pilots, with no reports of injuries.

The Philippine embassy in Washington has stated that they have not been informed of any Filipinos injured in the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland.

According to a report from GMA, Consul General Mark Dominic Lim mentioned that the embassy is closely monitoring the situation after the bridge collapse in Baltimore.

Lim stated, “No Filipino citizen on the bridge or the ship was reported injured or killed in the incident.”
