Philippine Taekwondo Association Releases Official Statement on Taekwondo Student Who Suffered Injuries

The Philippine Taekwondo Association has issued a statement about a 17-year-old taekwondo student who suffered injuries during a sparring session.

PTA released an official statement regarding the recent incident involving a yellow belt taekwondo practitioner who suffered injuries after reportedly being set up by her coach to spar with a larger and heavier male black belt.

The victim sustained visible bruises under her eye and a swollen face following the incident, which occurred in February. The young lady gets hospitalized due to the severity of her injuries.

Her family believes that the coach intentionally staged the fight out of jealousy. They claim he disliked her partner and had previously treated her badly. They believe that these factors may help to explain the coach’s actions.

“Sinadya po dahil may gusto siya sa anak ko. Meron daw pong biglang inaakap siya, inaakbayan, tapos inaaya siya kumain sa labas, magkape nang sila lang dalawa. Sabi ko di na normal yun,” the victim’s mother said.

The agency has expressed its commitment to addressing the matter seriously. In their statement, the association emphasized their dedication to discovering the facts surrounding the events and ensuring accountability within their community.

“We are taking matters seriously. We are working within our jurisdiction in determining the facts of the events to ensure accountability within our community,” the PTA stated.

conducting a thorough investigation into the alleged coach misconduct, the association aims to hold responsible parties accountable for their actions and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

The suspect may face legal charges for violating the Republic Act No. 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act. JILCF also stopped the training sessions temporarily to investigate the matter.
