Many people spend time on Holy Week prayers, listening to religious songs, watching films about faith, and attending church activities during the Holy Week. It marks the last week of Lent and a deep commemoration of the sufferings and death of Jesus Christ.

This year, the Holy Thursday up to the Black Saturday falls from March 27 to March 29. Below, you can check out the Holy Week prayers that you can use as guide in praying daily in commemoration of the sufferings and death of Jesus.

Maundy Thursday

On Maundy Thursday or also called the Holy Thursday, Jesus Christ washed the feet of His disciples. He also celebrated the passover with them and went to Garden of Gethsemane to pray. He knew what He was about to go through and it was followed by Judas betraying Him with a kiss in exchange of silvers.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Jesus showed great humility as He washed the feet of His disciples. I pray that we also live with a humble obedience to Your will. May we have the generous and kind hearts to serve the people around us and courage to face in faith whatever fate sends our way. Show us how to live generously extending your graces to the poor, the outcast, and those who are suffering around us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Good Friday

On Good Friday, Jesus Christ was arrested and His trial began early in the morning. It was also on this day that He came face-to-face with Pontius Pilate and the crowd demanded for His death on the Cross. Peter denied Him three (3) times as He expected and He faced a lot of sufferrings as He carried His Cross.

Prayer: Dear God, we can never thank You enough for the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ, to save us from our sins. It pains us to recall His journey to the Calvary and we deeply pray that you implant in our hearts a faith that always remembers how we were saved. We pray for all those who do not know You for their hearts to be opened that they may also see Your grace and the beauty of Your Fatherly love for us. These we ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Black Saturday

Also called the Holy Saturday or the Silent Saturday, it is this day when the body of Jesus Christ was laid in the tomb. His death paid the price for our sin and He victoriously won.

Prayer: Father God, we come before You in stillness but with so much gratitude for Your great love for us and the triumphant victory of your Son, Jesus Christ, Who fathomed death to save us from our sins. We are humbled knowing that Jesus will never step back from His love for us and His obedience to Your will. We pray that we, too, will develop this type of obedience to Your will that not even death can break. We pray to also develop the kind of patience that persists faithfully even in the waiting and deep faith that transcends beyond what the eyes can see. These we ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.
