A broadcaster was shot dead and this was caught on video

On November 5, social media was filled with shock as a video showed that in Misamis Occidental, a broadcaster was shot dead, identified as Johnny Walker, during his Facebook Live.

Radio programs have evolved over the years. People would not just hear radio announcers or broadcasters but the public can also watch them. There are radio programs that are also being aired on TV. With the advent of social media, radio programs are simultaneously being broadcast on different online platforms.

A seemed ordinary day for a broadcaster in Misamis Occidental became tragic. Broadcaster Juan Jumalon, popularly known as Johnny Walker on radio had his regular Facebook Live during his program.

Jumalon is one of the radio personalities on Calamba 94.7 Gold FM in Calamba, Misamis Occidental. In videos circulating on social media, it can be seen that the broadcaster was speaking when two gunshots were heard.

It can be seen in the video that there was a hand of a person who appeared to have grabbed the necklace of the 57-year-old broadcaster. Based on the reports, the incident happened at 5:35 AM on November 5. He was immediately brought to the Calamba District Hospital but he was already declared dead. Jumalon had gunshot wounds on his face.

As of writing, the authorities are still investigating to identify the suspect and the motive of the crime. Bandera News TV shared a video clip of the shocking incident.

WHO: Juan Jumalon y Tumpag,(Johnny walker) 57 yrs old, male, (DOB:O August 2, 1966), married, Radio Broadcaster/Water district of LGU Calamba and a resident of P-2, Brgy. Don Bernarfo A. Neri, Calamba, Misamis Occidental.

HOW: On the above-mentioned place, date and time while has in his own radio station 94.7 Calamba Gold FM located inside his residence unidentified suspect/s appeared with the intent of announcing important on the said radio station but when suspect enter inside the gate of the house of the victim suddenly suspect with out apparent reason suspect drew his firearm and shoot victim hitting his lower lip towards his back portion head. Then after the incident suspect fled away to unknown direction. family of the victim immediately brought the victim at Calamba district hospital for proper medical treatment but later it was pronounce dead on arrival by duty physician of Calamba district hospital Dr. GEOPETER L. MANISAN. MD.

Action Taken: PNP personnel of this station conducted Checkpoints and conduct dragnet operation for the possible apprehension of the perpetrator/s.

Further, this Office conducted thorough investigation relative to the incident in order to identify the perpetrator.
