Richard Gomez and Lucy Torres continue their public service endeavors
Celebrity-politician couple Richard Gomez and Lucy Torres talked about their careers as public servants.
Richard and Lucy were first known as showbiz personalities. Eventually, they entered the political arena and they are doing a great job for their constituents. Currently, Richard is the Representative of the 4th District of Leyte while Lucy is serving as the Ormoc City Mayor.
They swapped positions after their third terms. In a recent interview, based on the article in PEP, the couple talked about their careers in politics.
Lucy Torres said that transitioning to her position as a mayor was smooth because her husband Richard Gomez “built a really efficient team.” She added that the projects she has now for Ormoc City were the ones that were built up from Richard’s initiatives during his term.
“Tinuluy-tuloy because those are very strong programs, and everything was in place. So, built up on it lang,” the actress-politician said.
Being the mother of Ormoc City is a sentimental thing for Lucy because she grew up there and she has a lot of fond memories of different places.
For Richard, the duty as a congressman is not really new to him because when Lucy was in the said position, he is her chief of staff. “Naging madali rin yung transition ko from mayor to Congress. Tapos nung time na mayor ako, marami akong sinet-up na mga programs but hindi Na ma-hit talaga yung term mo na three years. Sad to say, but it’s really short,” the actor-politician said.
Richard is also able to continue the programs started by his wife. He stressed that he has always been a hands-on official. The actor-politician also cited that coming from his position as a mayor, helped him a lot in transitioning as a congressman.
“Kasi lahat ng ginagawa namin sa Congress, ini-implement lahat ng LGU,” Richard Gomez said.
