Darryl Yap Respectfully Declines the Invitation of FAMAS

Controversial director Darryl Yap respectfully declined the award-giving body FAMAS o Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards.

Darryl Yap, the director of “Martyr or Murderer,” published his courteous and orderly rejection of the FAMAS invitation on Facebook. Based on the post, the Director will be invited to the awards ceremony or have his film recognized.

“Opisyal na isinapublikong tugon ng inyong lingkod sa paanyaya ng FAMAS. Minabuti ko pong ipaskil ito upang sabayang ipabatid sa aking mga tagasubaybay, kaibigan sa industriya at mga katrabahong artista,” said Yap in his Facebook post.

“Ako po mismo ang umaako ng dahilan kung bakit di nakakasama sa ilang pagkilala ang ating mga munting pelikula. Hindi po ito ‘humblebrag’ o pagmamalaki at pagyayabang; hindi rin po nito sinusukat ang kredibilidad ng kahit na sino, hindi po ito repleksyon o tinig ng kahit na sino mula sa Viva films, ito po ay personal kong pahayag; ito po ay simpleng paninindigan lamang na sasagot sa mga tanong at kuro-kuro ng aking mga tagapagtangkilik,” he added.

The screengrab of the dialogue between the director and a FAMAS representative is attached to the FB post. He stated that, while he respects one of the country’s most prominent award-giving bodies, he cannot sacrifice and compromise his views, values, and convictions.

It can be recalled that the film “Katips” won an award at FAMAS. Atty Vince Tañada’s film “Maid in Malacaang” is said to be his competitor in 2022.
