MANILA, Philippines — While fair weather is expected in most parts of the country on Sunday, some parts will still experience cloudy skies and rain due to the easterlies and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“Ngayong umaga pa lamang malaki na ang tiyansa ng pagulan dito sa malaking bahagi ng Bicol Region as well as Quezon Province, bahagyang epekto po ito ng easterlies habang sa natitirang bahagi ng Luzon, kabilang ang Metro Manila generally maaraw sa umaga hanggang sa tanghali,” said Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja in a weather forecast.

(In the morning there is a high chance of rain here in the large part of the Bicol Region as well as Quezon Province, this is a slight effect of the easterlies while the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila is generally sunny in the morning until noon.)

Apart from Metro Manila, Estareja also said that generally fair weather will continue to prevail over Palawan, Tuguegarao and Laoag, while cloudy skies will prevail over Eastern Luzon, specifically, Bicol Region, Marinduque, Rombol, Oriental Mindoro, and Calabarzon, as well as Aurora and Cagayan Valley.

“Meron na ring mga localized thunderstorms na walang kinalaman sa bagyo o low pressure area,” said Estareja.

(There are also localized thunderstorms that have nothing to do with typhoons or low pressure area.)

Meanwhile, rain is forecast over Eastern Visayas as well as Cebu, Negros and Panay Island due to localized thunderstorms. Rain due to the ITCZ are also forecast over parts of Mindanao, particularly, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, southern part of Soccksargen, and Davao Occidental.

The entire Visayas and Mindanao, on the other hand, are expected to have relatively fairer weather conditions in the evening.

No tropical cyclones or low pressure areas (LPA) are also currently being monitored within or outside the Philippine area of responsibility which means no storms or LPAs are expected in the next few days.

But Estareja reminded the public that around two tropical cyclones are expected to hit the country in the second half of November.

No gale warning is also currently raised in any parts of the country’s seaboards, with wave height only expected to range between 0.6 to 2.5 meters.
