Diamante shines brightest at Novice swimfest

Not even super typhoon Karding could stop Nicola Queen Diamante from winning six golds at the close of the 1st Novice Swim Championship at the Teofilo Ildefonso swimming pook inside the vast Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) in Malate, Manila.

A member of the RSS Dolphines Swim Team, Diamante reigned supreme in the 11-year-old division, clocking 14.30 seconds to top the girls class A 25-meter free style that highlighted her six-gold romp.

She also ruled the butterfly (14.80), backstroke (16.30), breastroke (21.40), 50-meter freestyle (30.40), and 100-m Individual medley (1:29.40).

Her bid for a seven-gold haul in the event organized by Congress of Philippine Aquatics, Inc. (COPA) headed by Batangas 1st District Congressman Eric Buhain was torpedoed by Alex Pasia of Sharknado Swimming Team in the 100-m freestyle.

She clocked 1:09.10 while Pasia timed 45.80 in the two-day event also sponsored by Speedo.

Diamante’s six-gold haul was a fitting sequel to her four-gold showing in last month’s Reunion swimfest.

Up next according to COPA Board member Chito Rivera is Reunion third leg on Oct. 22-23.

Also lined up is the Sprint meet with the introduction of SKINS Swim event (Nov. 12-13); and Short Course Yuletide Swimming Championship (Dec. 10-11).
