All of PH sugar produce for 2022-2023 to be sold locally

BACOLOD CITY — All of the Philippines’ sugar production for crop year 2022-2023 has been classified as “B” sugar to be sold in the domestic market, said an order released Tuesday on September 13.

Sugar Order No. 1, Series of 2022-2023, allocating 100 percent of the country’s production as “B” was signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as chairman of the Sugar Regulatory Administration Board, Agriculture Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban, Acting Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) administrator David Alba, and acting board members Mitzi Mangwag for the millers and Pablo Luis Azcona for the planters.

The country’s sugar production for crop year 2022-2023 (September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2023) is expected to be 1,876,135.36 metric tons, the order said.

The SRA will conduct periodic assessments of the crop year 2022-2023 sugar production and withdrawal trends.

“On the basis of such assessment, SRA may from time to time adjust the percentage allocation/distribution to other classes of sugar in accordance with its power and function to establish domestic, export and reserve allocation,” the order read.
