Aldin Ayo is stepping away from the bright lights of basketball for the meantime to attend to his ailing mother who has been diagnosed with stage four cancer.

With a heavy heart, the 44-year-old mentor has decided to resign as head trainer of the Chooks-To-Go 3×3 team as he wanted to focus on taking care of his mother during the trying times.

“It was a tough decision to leave Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas but I need to be on my mom’s side in the battle that she is facing,” said Ayo about his 69-year-old mom. 

“I’m very grateful to Bounty Agro Ventures, Inc. and Boss Ronald Mascariñas for giving me the opportunity to train and coach the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 National Team and to represent the country through the sport we love most. I’m forever grateful.

Ayo was named as the head trainer of Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 back in November 2020 and steered the program to the country’ first title in the pro-circuit since 2014 when they won the championship in the  2022 Chooks-to-Go FIBA 3×3 Super Quest.

 Ayo is taking a break from his coaching career that also saw him guide Letran to a title in 2015 and La Salle in 2016. He last coached UST before his move to the 3×3 circuit.

Prior to his decision, Ayo was part of the pool of coaches being considered to take the head coaching role at San Beda in place of Boyet Fernandez. He’s also been rumored to be bringing his act to the PBA once her mother gets well.

Chico Lanete will be the interim head coach of Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 in the meantime.
