Western Visayas logs 21 new cases of Omicron BA.5 variant

ILOILO CITY — The Department of Health (DOH) in Western Visayas has recorded 21 new cases of the more transmissible COVID-19 Omicron BA.5 variant.

This brings to 22 the number of recorded Omicron BA.5 variant cases in the region.

In a statement issued on June 23, the DOH regional office said it is investigating and profiling the 21 cases in collaboration with local government units.

The cases include 16 from Iloilo City, four from Iloilo province, and one from Guimaras.

Eleven of those infected have mild symptoms while five are asymptomatic. Fourteen were on home quarantine while two have been admitted, according to the statement.

All 16 cases from Iloilo City were fully vaccinated, including 13 who have received a booster shot.
