3 alleged dog meat traders held in Bulacan

CAMP GEN. ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan—Three men were arrested for allegedly engaging in the illegal dog meat trade during separate entrapment operations in this province, police said Tuesday, May 24.

Col. Charlie Cabradilla, Bulacan police director, identified one of the suspects as Jessie dela Cruz, 37, a farm caretaker from Barangay Liciada in Bustos town. They were nabbed on Sunday afternoon.

Found in Dela Cruz’s possession were butchered dogs placed inside rice sacks, Cabradilla said.

In Pandi town, police arrested Lando Soriano, 58, and Felipe Borja, 62, who were allegedly involved in the illegal dog meat trade.

Animal Kingdom Foundation Inc., a non-profit animal welfare group, sought police assistance to capture the suspects.

The dog meat is reportedly supplied to some restaurants serving exotic food in Bulacan.

The three suspects were charged with violating Section 6 of the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.
