MANILA, Philippines—Filipino fighter Jeremy Miado was surprised when he tested positive for COVID-19 when he arrived in Singapore ahead of his supposed fight against Senzo Ikeda in ONE: Heavy Hitters.

Miado said he yielded a negative result before he left Thailand and was shocked why tested positive upon his arrival. His family and teammates at Marrok Force, where the trained, meanwhile, got negative COVID-19 test results.

“I was surprised because I tested negative before I left Thailand but when I got to Singapore they told me that I was COVID positive,” said Miado in Filipino. “I was confused because it was’t even 24 hours after I got tested in Thailand.”

“Of course I’m sad because all of my hard work went to nothing.”

He, along with Robin Catalan, were pulled out of the Singapore card. Since the pandemic began, several Filipino fighters have also tested positive ahead of their fights.

Miado (10-4) said he wasn’t experiencing any symptoms while under ONE’s health and safety protocols and his main concern was ensuring that his family was safe.

The 29-year-old knockout artist has his wife and son with him in Thailand as Chesla is also training at Marrok Force.

“The first person I told about my COVID result was my coach and then after that I told my family that I was positive,” said Miado. “I told them that the fight was off and I’m in quarantine.”

“Of course my wife was sad because she saw how much I worked for this fight but the only thing I got to do here was stay in my hotel room. Nevertheless, she’s still very supportive and I just told her that maybe God has a plan for me.”
