OFW in Saudi Arabia Got Mauled by Employer Due to Missing Part of Mixer

An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Saudi Arabia got mauled by her employer allegedly due to missing part of a mixer used for baking.

A Filipina domestic worker in Saudi Arabia fell into tears as she described her boss’s brutality when she couldn’t find the part of the cake mixer she needed to create the cake. According to Aibelle Poniente’s tale, she was kicked and pulled by her employer’s statue while being held by her hair.

Her assailant allegedly attacked her on October 23. She apparently begged her employer to stop abusing her, but they refused. She had a head wound, a fractured arm, and bruises all over her body.

“Nung binubugbog ako ni madam, nakikiusap ako na hindi ako makahinga pero patuloy pa rin siya na sinisipa ako,” Poniente said.

Poniente managed to flee with the help of fellow OFWs and made his way to the Philippine Consulate in Jeddah. Despite her husband’s best efforts, the Filipino worker is adamant about pursuing the lawsuit against her employer.

“Babayaran daw po ako ng asawa niya ng 1,000 Saudi Riyals makipagclose lang po ako, sabi ko sir hindi 1,000 Saudi Riyals ang buhay ko,” said Poniente, who sustained a head wound and bruises on his body.

Rencelino, Poniente’s husband, couldn’t help but be enraged by what his wife had gone through. Employers guilty of exploiting OFWs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have been blacklisted, according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

“POEA will monitor this case and coordinate with the agency which deployed the OFW. In case of violation, proper sanctions will be imposed,” said POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia.

Poniente will also receive assistance from POEA in his case and the processing of his repatriation. Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III will meet with his Saudi Arabian colleague to discuss the unpaid payments of 9,000 OFWs by their employers. If the matter is not handled during their meeting, Bello said he will propose to President Rodrigo Duterte a deployment ban for OFWs in Saudi Arabia.
