Vice Pres. Robredo Speaks on Issue Surrounding West Philippine Sea

spoke her stand on Philippines-China issue over the West Philippine Sea and her plan if she wins president.

One of the biggest issues involving the Philippines that caught different sides is the territorial dispute over the West Philippine Sea. Both PH and China have strong claims on the island and the latter did not recognize the ruling of the Arbitral Tribunal that sided the former.

Several known personalities in the different fields have spoken their side over the issue. Among these are presidential aspirants including Vice Pres. Leni Robredo.

, Vice Pres. Robredo said that if she wins presidency, she believes the Philippines can collaborate with China “in areas that we have no conflict” like trade and investment just like what Vietnam is doing. However, with regards to the West Philippine Sea, she is firm that the country cannot deal with the Chinese government “without their recognition of the arbitral ruling”.

Vice Pres. Robredo further expressed that the Philippines and China can work together on oil exploration but the conditions have to be set clear – “if there is first a recognition of our rights”.

On ties with other countries and not just favoring one country alone, the Vice President expressed her desire to make better ties with other nations most especially in increasing exports, protecting the citizens, and boosting the trade, military, and intelligence capabilities as well as protecting the West Philippine Sea.

The Vice President is one of the several incumbent politicians who are running for president in the Election 2022. She filed her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) as an independent candidate hoping for unity among the oppositions. She admitted that it is going to be a tough battle but she is overwhelmed by the support shown to her by the people when she made her bid for president official.
