PH logs 273 new COVID-19 deaths, total fatalities reach 39,505 — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — There are 273 new COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, bringing the total number of mortalities to 39,505, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
The total number of deaths accounts for 1.49 percent of all cases.

The country reported 11,010 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, to bring the caseload to 2,654,450.
Of the overall caseload, 106,558 or 4 percent are still tagged as “active cases,” but most of them have mild and asymptomatic infections at 90.2 percent.
There are also 22,529 new recoveries pushing the number of COVID-19 survivors to 2,508,387, which accounts for 94.5 percent of all cases.
DOH said 54 duplicates were removed from the total case tally, 39 of which are recoveries.
“Moreover, 162 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH noted.
Meanwhile, the Philippines is only behind Indonesia in terms of the number of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia with 4,225,871 cases, according to the latest data from the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19.
Indonesia also leads the Southeast Asian country in terms of deaths with 142,560 deaths.
As of posting, the COVID-19 global case count is now at 237.2 million including 4.8 million deaths, according to the tracker.
