How To Calculate BMI (A Step--Step Guide)

BMI CALCULATIONS

– In this article, we are going to learn about how you could calculate your body mass index or BMI.

The term BMI has been widely known, especially for students. However, what does it really mean and why is it important?

To understand the term BMI, we need to consider a few factors. Simply put, the BMI is a mathematical formula that takes a person’s height and to see if there could be health risks.

According to an article from WebMd, those who have a BMI score of 25 or over are considered overweight. Meanwhile, those with a BMI below the healthy range (18.5-24.9) can also have health issues.

Here are the steps in calculating or computing your BMI:

First, you need to divide your weight in pounds by your height in inches squared. Afterward, you need to multiply the results by a conversion factor of 703.

For example, a person is 5 feet and 5 inches tall. To input this into the formula, we need to convert 5 feet into inches and add the other 5 inches. This would give us a total of 65 inches.

Next, if the person weighs 150 pounds, all we need to do is place the data into the formula: [150 ÷ (65)

] x 703 = 24.96.
