2 suspected NPA rebels slain in clash with police in Negros Oriental

MANILA, Philippines — Two suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in a clash with police forces in Negros Oriental on Monday.

The encounter happened between members of elite police force trainees on a test mission and undetermined number of suspected communist rebels in the villages of Nagbinlod, Alangilan and Nagbalaye in Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental, Philippine National Police Gen. Debold Sinas said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The gun battle resulted to the death of two NPA terrorists while no casualties were reported on the government side,” he said.

The policemen recovered firearms and ammunition during the operations.

Sinas said the operating troops were still at the encounter area to continue scouring while other PNP troops were in position to block the possible exit routes of fleeing rebels.
