Remains of 2 landslide victims in Benguet town retrieved
BAGUIO CITY—After two days of search and retrieval operations, rescue personnel on Thursday found the remains of a man and his wife who were buried by a landslide in Itogon town, Benguet province, authorities said.
The body of Nestor Talangcag,54, was found around 2 p.m. while a hand believed to be that of Maureen Talangcag, 57, was retrieved hours later underneath the soil debris.

Police said the victims were both miners and residents of Barangay Loacan in Itogon.
According to the investigators, the two were gold panning along the Antamok River on Tuesday when the side of the nearby mountain collapsed and buried them. Their children managed to run away from the area.

Some of the villagers joined the search and used a backhoe to clear the mud.
