BI Warns Against Fake Overseas Employment Certificates Being Sold Online

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) warns the public against fake overseas employment certificates being sold online.

BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco has issued a warning against the sale of bogus OECs on the internet. This comes after BI agents blocked some Filipinos from leaving the country due to forged overseas work documents.

“Our system is integrated with the [Department of Migrant Workers’] database, hence it is very easy for us to verify legitimate OECs. Using these fake certificates will no longer work,” said BI Commissioner.

The Immigration Bureau issued a warning after its Travel Control and Enforcement Unit (TCEU) intercepted three victims on their way to Warsaw, Poland, at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 on Tuesday. The victims, a woman and two males in their 30s and up, claimed they were recruited online using a chat app.

They each spent around P70,000 on recruitment and their tickets. They also allegedly paid an additional P7,000 for the processing of their OECs. They stated that the OECs were delivered to them via email.

Based on the report, the BI main inspector confirmed that the OECs were false with the TCEU. Aside from that, BI recently documented multiple incidents of forged OECs.
