Taste Atlas Includes Sorbetes & Halo-Halo in “50 Best Rated Frozen Desserts in the World”

Sorbetes and halo-halo, two popular Filipino frozen desserts, have made it to the list of the “50 Best Rated Frozen Desserts in the World,” according to Taste Atlas, a well-known online food guide.

In a Facebook post released by Taste Atlas, sorbetes ranked fifth after receiving a score of 4.5. The online food guide described sorbetes on their website as famous Filipino ice cream with flavors such as mango, chocolate, cheese, coconut, and purple yam (ube).

“Traditionally, it is produced from carabao milk and served in tiny scoops on sugar cones. Some Filipinos like to consume it sandwiched between bread buns, like a hamburger,” Taste Atlas mentioned.

Taste Atlas explained although ‘sorbetes’ sounds similar to a sorbet, coming from the Spanish sorbete, it is not a sorbet but a dirty ice cream, as the locals jokingly call it due to the fact that it is sold along polluted streets.

Sorbetes can usually be found in numerous street carts throughout the Philippines.

On the other hand, halo-halo ranked 43rd after receiving a score of 3.8. Some common ingredients of halo-halo include bananas, jackfruit, coconut, sweet potato, mung beans, sugar palm fruit, purple yam, leche flan (caramel custard), and sweet corn or corn crisps.

“The refreshing halo-halo (lit. mix-mix) is a summer dessert or a snack of mixed fruit and beans, topped with finely crushed ice and either milk or ice cream,” described Taste Atlas.

Recently, Taste Atlas announced that seven Filipino dishes made it to their list of the “100 Best Rated Pork Dishes in the World.”
