Departing OFWs Given Priority for Plastic Drivers License Cards, Says LTO

LTO Says Departing OFWs Given Priority for Plastic Drivers License Cards

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced that departing Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) will be given priority in receiving plastic driver’s license cards, enabling them to use the cards for their work abroad.

LTO Officer-in-Charge Hector Villacorta emphasized the importance of providing plastic cards to departing OFWs, as currently, applicants only receive printed licenses on paper.

With only 53,000 plastic cards remaining, Villacorta has instructed division chiefs within the agency to prioritize issuing these cards to departing OFWs to facilitate their employment overseas.

This initiative aims to address the challenges faced by OFWs who need a valid plastic driver’s license to drive legally and safely in foreign countries.

Recently, the LTO has issued driver’s licenses in printed form, consisting of a laminated card attached to a paper sheet. However, these printed licenses are not widely accepted or recognized in foreign countries.

OFWs facing this predicament are often required to undergo the lengthy and costly process of obtaining a local driver’s license in their country of employment.

This process includes attending driving classes, taking exams, and paying additional fees, all of which can be burdensome for OFWs already grappling with the challenges of starting a new life abroad.

Recognizing the importance of facilitating the employment prospects of departing OFWs, LTO Officer-in-Charge Hector Villacorta has taken immediate action. He has instructed the division chiefs within the agency to prioritize issuing plastic driver’s license cards to departing OFWs.

doing so, OFWs will be equipped with internationally recognized licenses, allowing them to drive legally and work efficiently in their respective countries of employment.

Villacorta has called upon all LTO personnel to perform their duties diligently and with integrity. He emphasized the importance of upholding high standards of professionalism and combating corruption within the agency. Conclusion
