BI Launches Manhunt Against South Korean Detainee Who Escaped Facility

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has launched a manhunt operation against a South Korean detainee who escaped their facility.

After a 38-year-old South Korean detainee escaped from a facility, the BI initiated an investigation and manhunt. According to the investigation, a Korean suspect managed to infiltrate the BI facility’s perimeter at two a.m. by scaling a 20-foot barbed-wire fence.

According to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco, the fugitive was detained by immigration officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on February 10 after arriving from Bangkok, Thailand. He was discovered to have an Interpol red notice for murder and abandonment of a dead body.

Prior to deportation, he was charged and transported to the Taguig City facility. Based on the report, Tansingco stated that the BI is working closely with local law enforcement agencies to quickly locate and detain him.

Tansingco stated that specialized teams have been deployed to several areas, pursuing reliable leads in order to apprehend the fugitive. This is a major breach of the facility’s security, and an inquiry into the lapses has begun.

Tansingco stated that they will correct the flaws that caused this to happen as well as take the necessary steps to prevent similar events in the future. The event has also been reported to the Department of Justice and the Korean Embassy.
