Imus revives softball tournament, offers P100K to champion

IMUS CITY ˗ In his desire to further boost the sport in the city, Mayor Alex ‘AA’ Advincula launched the 1st AJAA Cup Softball Inter Barangay Tournament recently at the Imus Grandstand and Track Oval in Barangay Malagasang 1-G.

Not only in softball, though, as the City of Cavite is hosting the ongoing Regional Athletic Association Meet (RAAM) 2023 at the Montano Grandstand Cavite City through the efforts of City Mayor Denver Chua, Vice Mayor Raleigh Grepo Rusit,

Assistant School Division Superintendent Dr. Juan Araojo Jr. and Regional Director Atty Alberto Escobar.

With the return of softball to Imus, government officials, Advincula included, are hoping to revive the popularity of the sport to the province.

“Ang lungsod po ng Imus ay buong suporta para sa pampalakasan, muli po natin ibinabalik ang Softbal League, na ating pong nasimulan noong 2016,

sa pagbabalik po, may sampu pong teams na mga kalahok na mula sa Barangay Bayan Luma, Tanzang Luma, Bucandala, Anabu, Pasong Buaya,

Malagasang at Buhay na Tubig,” said Advincula.

Apart from softball, the city is also fully supporting volleyball and basketball.

The province of Cavite, according to Advincula, has produced a number of great softball players in the past and that’s the reason why the city is reviving the event.

For this tournament alone, the city government is staking P100,000 to the champion, P75,000 to the runner-up and P50,000 to third placer.
