A unique experience will be in store once again for running enthusiasts with the return of the ASICS Rock ‘n Roll Running Series Manila presented by AIA Vitality on Nov. 26.

The one-of-a-kind event is a fusion of running, sight-seeing, music and entertainment as it encourages participants of all ages to an active and healthy lifestyle.

The race, which will adopt the highly popular night racing format, will have four categories, namely the 5K, 10K, 21K and 42K.

“Hosting this for the second time not only is an opportunity to promote physical and mental awareness, but also to promote the different tourist destinations in Manila,” said Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuna in Wednesday’s press briefing at the Manila City Hall.

The course will run through popular tourist sites in Manila that include Rizal Park, National Museum, the Manila City Hall, Kartilya ng Katipunan and Intramuros, among others.

What makes it different from the usual running events is that organizers will feature eight to 10 locations along the course with live entertainment such as bands and DJs to energize the atmosphere throughout the race similar to other legs of the Series in Las Vegas, Madrid, Washington DC and Salt Lake City, to name a few.

The Manila leg will serve as the 10th of the 11 planned events marking the brand’s 25-year anniversary celebration.

Not only it will inspire participants to keep up with their personal bests, but it will also encourage building a community by “bringing the fun to the run.”

“We wanted to bring that healthy and active lifestyle to all parts of the Philippines through triathlon, cycling and now, to marathon,” said IRONMAN Philippines founder and Ambassador Fred Uytengsu.  “The race was founded on enjoying the scenery and listening to music. It’s a unique experience that everyone could enjoy.”

Registration opens on Feb. 16.
